Think an outdoor ice rink isn’t possible in Texas? Think again! Thanks to a 150 ton chiller (see photo above) North Texans can now enjoy the holiday season at Fort Worth’s FIRST outdoor ice skating rink, Panther Island Ice.

Assembly of the ice rink started today and is expected to take a day to complete. Once set-up is final the chiller will get to work freezing 3,500 square feet of ice.

Panther Island Ice will open to the public on Friday, November 22nd and operate until January 5th. It will be open seven days a week, including all holidays. Admission is $10 and will include skate rentals. Panther Island Ice is located at Coyote Drive-In but a ticket to a movie isn’t required to skate. In addition to public ice skating, Panther Island Ice will also offer Santa Clause appearances and seasonal music. Discounts will be available to students, active duty military and groups of 15 or more people.
