The Trinity River Vision is hosting the 2nd Annual Fort Worth River Art Competition and this year we’re making it larger than life. Literally! The University of Texas at Arlington, Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus and Tarrant County College Northeast Campus have all agreed to create large vibrant floating polyurea sculptures to compete (Polyurea is an environmentally sensitive GREEN medium with an appearance similar to fiberglass). The sculptures will float in the Trinity River and appear at Main Street Arts Festival, Mayfest and other community events which celebrate the river. The contest is sponsored by the Tarrant Regional Water District and coordinated by JT Grant.
On April 19th at 2:30pm a respected panel of judges will come together to critique the sculptures being displayed at the Main Street Arts Festival at the corner of Main and 2nd Street. First place will win $1,250, 2nd place $1,000 and 3rd place $750.
The winner of the juried competition will be determined by the following panel of judges:
- C.D. Dickerson (Curator European Art, Kimbell Museum)
- Ruth Buzzi (Actress/Comedian)
- Gaile Robinson (Art Critic, Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
- Pam Campbell (Accredited Fine Art Appraiser, Co-owner William Campbell Contemporary Art)
- Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks (Fort Worth Dist 8, Executive Director, Sickle Cell Disease Association of Tarrant County)
Another winner will be chosen by the public and announced at Mayfest. The public’s choice will be determined via texting, online and Twitter voting and real-time updates will be available on the Trinity River Vision website.
