The project will take major leaps toward upgrading the quality of the area's environment. Improvements include the restoration of the Riverside Oxbow Ecosystem, which preserves 200-year-old trees and will enhance the existing bottomland hardwood forest. In addition to the existing forests, 72,000 oaks, pecans and other bottomland hardwood trees will be planted in the park.
Former gravel pits and industrial areas will be transformed into beautiful wetlands that will serve as a natural backdrop for the equestrian center and trails. An area that was once a landfill will be modified to accommodate a sports complex. A decommissioned water sewage treatment plant will be completely removed to provide an ideal location for an outdoor amphitheater and a fishing lake.
