FORT WORTH, Texas – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, has awarded a $3,290,204 construction contract for Phase 2 – Samuels Avenue Valley Storage Sites of the Fort Worth Central City, Upper Trinity River Project.  This action will expand storage capacity in this section of the Trinity River so the project provides additional flood storage capabilities.  The contract was awarded to The Penna Group, LLC, of Fort Worth, a participant in Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program. Contract completion is scheduled for late this year.

   Central City is one part of the much larger Trinity River Vision project which is a partnership of Tarrant Regional Water District, Tarrant County, the City of Fort Worth, Streams and Valleys, Inc., and the Corps.  Overall project execution is coordinated by the Trinity River Vision Authority.  The Trinity River Vision project addresses four main objectives – flood protection, urban revitalization, ecosystem improvements and recreation along the Trinity River. The larger project includes three isolation gates, a dam, valley storage mitigation sites and a bypass channel to convey flood waters away from the business district of Fort Worth.
