The Phyllis Tilley Memorial Bridge, an elegant new modern bicycle and; pedestrian bridge, has now started construction just south of the Lancaster Avenue bridge. The Tilley bridge will provide a pedestrian & bike-only link between the banks of the Trinity, linking the east side and west side riverfront trails together.
The bridge, designed by Boston architect Miguel Rosales, is a 384 foot “stressed ribbon” style bridge, relatively uncommon in the United States. The design features a minimalist span and a simple, elegant supporting arch.
The Tilley bridge should make a very useful link in the city’s bike transportation network, as well as being a great photogenic spot. Looking forward to seeing this one come together. Below is a rendering of the finished bridge:
